  • Zalaegerszegi Televízió - HD device development

“Zalaegerszegi Televízió és Rádió Kft carried out a  41 million HUF development in 2 steps, partly from its own resources and partly from tender sources. In 2017, we started negotiations with Rexfilm, with whom we have been in contact for almost 20 years. In the first round, we carried out a complete system engineering redesign, which took place in August 2018 in just 4 days, with a total transmission failure of barely 50 minutes. The tender development that was already underway at that time was built on this plan, which was completed by the end of the summer of 2020. The development implemented by Rexfilm has been running continuously since then, flawlessly.”

  • MTVA - Multi-camera tracking system that works in an AR environment

In order to provide viewers with ever higher quality service and to meet the technological needs of the age, MTVA sought a system that, using the possibilities provided by AR technology, could make any graphic objects appear in the background (or foreground) of a particular studio, all with realtime rendering, naturally.

Some of the technology that enables the rendering of graphic objects in real time was already available thanks to the existing Vizr system, so from a graphic point of view we chose Vizer’s solutions to realize our concepts.

However, to build a well conceived system that makes use of virtual graphics solutions, the best real-time rendering engine would not be enough. We therefore looked for an appropriate tracking system. Choosing a system and integrating it into a specific graphic environment posed a significant challenge. Ultimately we chose Stype, from Croatia, who provide high quality and well priced tools for both mechanical and optical (IR) tracking systems.

Once the tool had been chosen, the next step was implemention. The situation was complicated by having to track real-time movement with several cameras, as well as by the fact that the studio was occupied, and we could therefore only work after midnight. We had to be careful because we were working in a live production environment, and so by 5 A.M. we had to restore everything to the point that the daily production could proceed without interuption.

One of the keys to the success of the project was that Rexfilm Kft. has a 20-year history with real-time rendered broadcast graphics systems and perhaps the greatest professional experience in the country. Another important factor was the maximum support we received from both the customer and the manufacturers at every stage of the project, from design until the last moment of implementation.

In the end, the ideas were realized on screen and we were all pleased to hear that the reaction to the project by both the client and viewers was overwhelmingly positive. We received the most feedback and praise for the sports show, in which the world champion F1 car rolled into MTVA’s studio – only virtually, of course. This feat would have stood up in any international program. However, the technology itself would not have been enough, the project also required a great deal of creativity, but we can safely say that it was worth it.

During the implementation of the project, we used the following tools:

    • Stype Redspy – Optical camera tracking system
    • Stype Hybrid solution – mixed optical and mechanical camera tracking system
    • Viz Artist Graphic Designer Software
    • Viz Engine Graphic Rendering Software
    • Software-enabling hardware environments
    • Network infrastructure (from Cisco, Adder and Lightware)
    • Rexfilm’s professional team

A the end of the project we consolidated our learnings, and since then we have provided continuous support to the system.

  • Antenna Hungária - The complete installation and reconstruction of the Antenna Hungaria production trucks

Antenna Hungária is currently Hungary’s leading program producer, with 12 HD and 4K ready production trucks, fully designed and manufactured in Hungary. We are proud to include in our resume vehicle reconstruction (OB9, OB10), as well as complete installation (OB1, OB5, OB6, OB7, OB11).

We received the first request from Antenna Hungaria in 2016 to convert their OB1 production truck to HD. After the launch of the program producer’s “broadcast service” and with the FINA swimming world championship being organised in Hungary, demand rose for the construction of 7 production trucks, for which we were given about 7 months. The biggest challenge was the amount of time and equipment: in the history of our company and in terms of the whole market, this kind of short-term implementation on such a large-scale had never been seen before.

Quantitative data describing the installed instruments:

    • 100+ GrassValley LDX80 / 82, LDX86 and LDX86N camera chains
    • 22 EVS XT3 Deceleration Server
    • 12 Riedel Artist Intercom System

  • M-RTL - Renewed news studio system

Since the autumn of 2016, RTL Klub has been producing a number of programs in a completely renewed studio, including their News and Focus programs. During the renovation, they requested the highest level of technological solutions currently available, as well as the corresponding creative and visual elements.

And so, for the second time ever in Europe, a broadcast technology solution was implemented in which an ARCAM solution from the French company AR+, an automotive robot system used in the car industry, was used as a camera moving device. Because the robotic arm is able to cover a relatively small area by itself, compared to the size of the studio, it has been fitted onto a track that is several meters long, providing greater room for maneuver.

The cherry on top was to hang it on an extremely stable frame to maximize the use of the studio space. Rexfilm engineers actively participated in the installation of the robot arm, which of course was preceded by a training at the manufacturer.

As a result, the use of completely new camera movements has been made possible, and thanks to the system’s programmability and control, these camera movements can be customized and repeated with extreme precision. In order to carry out certain tasks in a standardized manner, a solution from a studio automation system, Vizrt Mosart, was also introduced.

In addition to high-level technological solutions, we have also enabled visual innovations: Hungary’s first augmented reality (AR) elements on the screen has been made possible, resulting in the ability to place three-dimensional graphic elements in the studio space.

In addition, two large-scale Unilumin LED walls and a “virtual window” based on Vizr’s real-time graphics rendering have been constructed. The point of the latter is that the virtual image behind the presenter follows the movement of the camera, so we feel as if seeing the picture while walking past a window. The project involved the complete renewal of the news studio.

During the project we used the following tools:

    • GrassValley LDX C80 Camera
    • Canon HD New Super Wide and HD Premium Standard Optics
    • AR + ARCAM robot arm
    • Vizrt Mosart Studio Automation System
